How I Began My Journey

My love of dogs began as a child. My very first Akita came into my family at a young age.

I started working with dogs in my 20’s when I volunteered for a local Akita rescue. I have been fostering, transporting, and training dogs for the rescue for almost 20 years. I’ve seen many great rescue dogs find loving homes. I’ve been through the potty training phase with a whole litter of puppies, lived with and said goodbye to several of my own, and helped friends, family, and neighbors with issues with their dogs. My specialty breed is Akitas, but I love and will train all breeds. I’ve been through it all and now I want to help you through it, too.

You Should have the Best Behaved Pup in the Neighbourhood

  • Helping Pet Parents build real bonds with their pets is why we do what we do.
  • I have been there with my dog who struggled to be socialized and couldn’t be around friends and family or even other dogs. I have learned how to train past these issues and I want you to have that same kind of deep bond with your dog.
  • Well behaved and trained dogs have a better chance of avoiding animal shelters, or worse.

Dog behavioral issues are the #1 reason listed for dogs being given up to shelters.

When surrendering their dog to a shelter, the majority of owners cite behavioural issues as the reason they are leaving their pet.

Biting, aggression, destructive tendencies, accidents, whining, barking… these are all behavioural issues that could lead an owner to abandon their dog. Yet, most of this behaviour can largely be avoided or even corrected with the right help.

A dog that is well looked after, with an owner who provides for all of its needs, is much more likely to display calm behaviour. Dogs also need to be trained, preferably from a young age, and good training can avoid many of the behavioural issues listed above.

What we do differently

  • We focus on one-on-one training with you at the comfort of your own home.
  • Keep pricing low by offering a low monthly charge.
  • Build communities with our graduates. You will be able to join our private Facebook page to show off your dog and see others, ask the group and I direct questions about an issue you are having, and see special training tips posted often.
  • Graduates are invited to our free outdoor socialization events so your dog can meet and play with other Perfect Pups.
  • We don’t just stop at 8 weeks, we are in it for the long haul. After the initial training issues are addressed, we continue to come out on a month-to-month basis to build long lasting relationships with you and your Perfect Pup and continue training long after the initial issues are addressed to maintain long-term success.
  • You become the trainer. We’ll teach you everything you want to learn. You will not only be able to help your pup, but will eventually be able to help others as well. “The student becomes the teacher” is not just a saying, it’s what we strive for. You may be offered a spot to work with us and help other pups!

Thanks for checking us out! Your Perfect Pup will thank you, too.

Interested in an Akita????

Midwest Akita Rescue Society (MARS)

If you are interested in adopting an Akita orphan of your own, Midwest Akita Rescue Society (MARS) is the organization I’ve had the privilege to volunteer with for nearly 2 decades. Akitas are a wonderful breed but they aren’t for everyone. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about the breed and please check out their website for a list of available orphans and how their application process works.

Mission

MARS is dedicated to evaluating, rescuing, medically treating, rehabilitating, and re-homing abandoned, relinquished or otherwise homeless Akita dogs. We also participate in mentoring Akita owners and prospective owners, and we work with schools in educating children on the proper, safe and humane way to live and work with Akitas and pet animals in general. We are one of a group of regional Akita rescue organizations, and are part of the Akita Club of America (ACA).
